Company's Bison projects in North Dakota now have 101 wind turbines.
Minnesota Power has completed the installation of 70 new Siemens wind generators at its Bison wind energy farm near New Salem, ND.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, the Duluth-based company now has 101 wind turbines generating electricity at the Bison 1, 2, and 3 projects.
The electricity moves from North Dakota to Duluth through a 465-mile direct-current transmission line. Minnesota Power purchased the line in 2009 to enable it to phase out a contract to buy coal-based electricity in North Dakota.
A spokeswoman for the company tells the Tribune that more wind generators could be added later in the decade.
